Special Christmas Celebrations

Merry Christmas to all you people out there. May this beautiful day leave behind some unforgettable memories for the rest of your life.
Christmas-Celebrations
It’s chilling outside and my neighbors are decorating the Christmas tree in full enthusiasm. The little kid Joy is extremely happy; I can see the gliders in his eyes when he looks at the tree and the gifts. He is so eager to open the gifts sent by his relatives and family that he can’t maintain his distance from the beautifully decorated area. Yesterday, joy came to my place with a fresh baked cake, which smelled incredibly good. On asking the reason behind that tempting offering, he replied in a cute tone, “It’s Christmas time. Mom has baked this cake especially for me, and I am sharing it with the people close to me. This is my idea of telling them that they are very special.” I was touched with this generous and honest feeling of the adorable child.

I became the neighbor of the Mathur family just a month ago, and have received so much love from the closely knit family. They are the best people in the world, not because they offer me food when I reach home late, but they are so helpful to everyone in the society. When Joy shared his wish with me, I decided the same moment to become his secret Santa this Christmas. He has been contemplating on the play station for so long that he has asked almost every member of his family about the same.

I was invited over the Christmas dinner with the most lovely family in my neighborhood, and this was the time when Joy was asked to open all his gifts. The excitement was high, his gestures reflected the curiosity. I placed the gift in front of the tree when the family was busy preparing the dinner. The moment arrived, Joy started opening his gifts one by one. He opened the present given by his secret Santa and I could not get my eyes off him. My special Christmas celebrations ended looking at his smile and with a fantastic dinner. Hope you two had fun with your closed ones. – Ajith Kozhikote

Health Professionals, Do You Have a Strong Impact on Digital Media?

Digital presence is becoming quite popular in the health care community. So many social media profiles of the physicians, institutions, health care professionals are showing up every day. Is it indispensable for the members of the health community to have a strong social impact? What do you have to say about it? Here are my thoughts on this move by the society of the health professionals.
Digital-Medical-Records
Digital media undoubtedly has given us a vast platform to connect with the people around the world, voice our thoughts on this global platform, increase or share our knowledge breaking all the geographical boundaries and most of all emerging as a strong personality online. Digital media is of the people, for the people and by the people. We communicate with the unknown group on common topics and engage with large group of people through a powerful conversation. This is how we increase our network on social media.

Health professionals have adopted this way of reaching out to larger number of people more quickly. You too can connect with your patients online. Not only this, you can improve outcomes through your positive social presence. Share your thoughts with the world; let the people know your interests. If they find you a reliable source, then you will see more and more people connecting with you. You can then reach out to them and answer their queries more quickly. Your social feeds can be really helpful to your present patients and can attract the future patients.

Social media is a new way of nurturing and maintaining relationships.

With digital presence, the services and practice of health professionals have become more transparent. People can now search reviews about the institutions and practitioners to make the right decision. These reviews have always helped the patients, and have given them the power to rate the services and give their comments on the same. This era of technology has revived the doctor and patient relationship. The physicians can empower their patients to connect with them via social networks and get their guidance and support every time.

As a physician, it is your duty to educate your patients. Leave a strong impact on digital media and share your knowledge and experience with the world.

Ajith Kozhikote: The best Birthday Gift Ever

Birthdays are special. Aren’t they? The excitement, elation, exuberance of the day can’t be matched with any other day. I have been quite casual on birthday celebrations, and being a studious kid, I was involved in the text books. So, even though people around me kept poking me to get in a celebrating mood, I have been on a different trip always. But, for girls, it means everything. The day should not be less than a fairy tale. It is about new clothes, birthday presents, flowers, etc. They love to get pampered, but this story is about a girl who believed she has received the best gift ever.

Shalini Mathur is a genius student of class 6. She stays with her parents in Mumbai, and enjoys good attention for being the single child. This lower middle class family just managed to earn a simple life in the tough city. Things were going easy with less money but more happiness, until Shalini met with an accident. The little girl lost her eyesight in a tragic accident last year, when she was on her way back home from school. A bike lost its balance and hit Shalini with full force. Everything changed from that moment, the violent incident smashed all the dreams of the little child, and crushed the hopes of her parents.

Shalini’s birthday falls on 2nd November, and this year the enthusiasm was not the same. The disheartened souls did not think of celebrating when the hospital staff gave them a good news. They found a donor, it was really a miracle. Someone just donated his eyes to the little girl, and she could see again. The house filled with happiness, and today, Shalini can see the beautiful world again. Thanks to the donor who gave her a new life on her birth anniversary. Today she is living her life with the same enthusiasm, and vibrant attitude. She says, this was the best gift of my life, and why shouldn’t it be.

Ajith Kozhikote: Let Us Grow The Health Graph With The Health Camps

All the nations are working towards attaining a positive health graph. The efforts given by the countries to improve the health of their citizens, and give them the environment free of harmful diseases is commendable. So much has been done for improving the health status of the world, still the nations are lacking in setting the quality health standards. Limited resources, inefficient systems, and above all the lack of education amongst the people is the reason of the health disparities still sustaining in the ecosystem.

We need to perform some concrete actions, which can definitely change the present medical situation. For the improvement of the health condition of our citizens, we all have to face some challenges. After all it is about our people and our society. These health initiatives taken by an individual or by the whole population will benefit all of us.

The facts reveal that, in India, about 2 million children under 5 years of age die due to preventable diseases annually, whereas 45 children die every hour because of respiratory diseases. What should we do after knowing these shocking facts? Isn’t this posing threat to the health of our people? Definitely it is, and we must take steps to combat these deadly situations with a timely diagnosis.

So many people are taking the initiatives to improve these worsening situations by organizing health camps at various places. These health camps can be the general health camps or the special camps. In the general health camps, people can get their general check up done by a team of doctors available at the site. Some of the tests which are done during these camps are: sugar tests, blood pressure, ECG, Urine analysis, Blood group determination, Lipid profile, and liver function test. On the other hand, the specialized camps will focus on any specific check up. These camps also educate the people about the basic hygiene and preventive measures.

We can reduce facing these threats by organizing more and more such camps in the remote areas of our country, where the population is deprived of the basic resources.

Ajith Kozhikote: Yoga Benefits For Cancer Patients

Ajith Kozhikote is a well known physician from Maharashtra. He has been working actively in creating awareness amongst the people about various dangerous diseases that pose a threat to the human life. Cancer is one such life threatening disease which has succumbed many lives. The physician believes that there are various ways apart from the fixed treatment, which can help in curing cancer. Yoga is one such practice which has delivered some amazing results in the past, and is continuing to do so in the cancer cases.

Cancer patients are seen practicing yoga nowadays. The physicians also advise these patients to take yoga classes to relieve the pain caused by chemotherapy. The victims of this disease get tired of the painful treatments, discomfort and fatigue from the chemo and radiation. They need to revitalize their diminishing energy with something that can flush within them the power to combat the disturbing phase.

The cancer patients have identified that the gentle yoga poses can be really helpful in saving them from the physical discomfort through cancer treatment. Yoga is one of the most successful ways of stimulating the blood flow within the body. Not only this, the practice also enhances the lymphatic flow, purifies the blood, and balances the glands of our body. The effective yoga asanas benefit the patient’s body by increasing the flow of rich oxygenated blood to the cells, and flushing out the toxins. The patients with breast cancer who did yoga on a regular basis had less stress hormones.

The patients who are fighting with this life threatening disease are always stressed and tensed about their worsening health condition. This stress halts the process of smooth treatment, and also disrupts the immune system of their body. People who practice yoga are happier than those who rely solely upon the treatments. All the patients who are ailing from cancer should make a habit of practicing yoga regularly for positive and healthy results.

The seminars conducted by this group have created awareness amongst the people, and they have been benefited with this knowledge. Recently, in a workshop organized by Ajith Kozhikote and his team, the cancer patients were given a deep insight about the disease and the treatments available for its cure. A team of twenty dedicated people organized this workshop very smartly. They also focused on the role of nutrition, exercise and medication in curing the cancer patient. Apart from this, the family members of the patient were given special seminar on taking proper care of the patient, and to cope with their disease.

According to one of the team members and Ajith’s colleague, Shantanu Das, the need for such workshops is a must in our society. Cancer is a dangerous disease, and so is it’s effect on the patient and on the family. The emotional and the physical breakdown of the patient is drastic in such conditions. When such workshops are organized, the main focus is kept on preparing the patients about their situation. They are definitely not leading a normal life like other people, but the initiative is to convince them to do so. The day was really exciting, and with the tight schedule and intelligent management, the workshop was a huge success.

Ajith Kozhikote – Treated With Care

As physicians, we hold a big responsibility of preserving the faith of the patients, supporting them in their disease and treating them with care. Nobody chooses to be bed ridden for a complete life, or live with the dangerous diseases. Those who are safe from the world of diseases, pains and sufferings are the luckiest people on this planet. It is the duty of every physician to create an environment of care, communication with his patients, and take a first step towards treating them.

Communication plays an important role in the relationship of the patient and the doctor. In my career, I have examined so many people, and I found that most of them don’t talk because of the fear their disease and others are just not so open. In those cases, it’s hard to create make a patient comfortable with the environment, they should be treated in a way that they accept their health problems easily and should be flexible with any type of treatment. This communication therapy helps in modifying their behavior and reducing the complexities in the treatment. Another reason behind maintaining a smooth relationship with the patients is to reduce their anxiety

Drawing out a hand of modesty towards the family of the patients can also aid in knowing more about the patient’s behavior. We must remain in regular contact with the families to conquer their fears and stress of being in the hospital. Being a physician, we encounter so many people on a daily basis, only recalling them all is very unmanageable. But, it’s not impossible, if this step can help so many people, then it’s worth a try.

Talk to the patients about their health problems whenever you get time. Give them the confidence and support them to stay strong. Educate them about the treatment and let them know about the possibilities of the case. This direct interaction with the patients and families would not only encourage the patient, but it would give us an opportunity to know them in a better way.

Treat your patients with care both physically and emotionally.
